TNPCEE exam is a common exam for all medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, and successful candidates get the chance choose their medical in the order of their rank in TNPCEE. Since admissions to SMC is highly competitive, the college gets filled within the top 300 ranking candidates in the TNPCEE. Lower ranks in the AIPMPD (compared to the TNPCEE) do get students admitted to SMC, but is equally or more difficult, since AIPMPD is a national level exam with more applicants than the TNPCEE which is a state level exam.
