|About National School of Drama
The National School of Drama is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world and the only one of its kind in India. It was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as one of its constituent units in 1959. In 1975, it became an independent entity and was registered as an autonomous organization under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public. The syllabus takes into account the methods of great theatre personalities who have shaped contemporary theatre in all its variety. The systematic study and practical performing experience of Sanskrit drama, modern Indian drama, traditional Indian theatre forms, Asian drama and western dramatic protocols give the students a solid grounding and a wide perspective in the art of theatre.
The candidates must have a graduation from any discipline from the recognized institute or University. The candidates should have a background of participating in at least 6 plays or in any production or theatre works. They must have a good proficiency in the languages English and Hindi. The candidate’s age should be between 18 and 30. The reservation category will have the consideration as per the Government rules.

Test Pattern of NSD
The Screening test has two phases,
This is the audition round or the practical tests were the candidates are evaluated by their natural talents and artistic interest. The candidates should perform in front of the selection panel on the given or chosen art form. The audition/practical test is conducted on the five different centers of NSD in the five different states.
The successful candidates of the first phase will call for the second stage of the selection process, which held at the New Delhi campus. In the second stage they have to attend the 3-5 days workshops. During the workshop they will give the specific tasks to perform and the final selection of the candidates will based on the performance and score of the candidates during the workshop. The candidates at this stage are evaluated based on their attitude, initiation and participation in the collective tasks
How to Apply?
The candidates should apply for the screening test in the prescribed form. Every year on the month of February the detailed notification for the exam is available in the leading newspapers. The candidates can send a request for screening test form to the given address. They must enclose the crossed DD from the nationalized Bank in favor of “The Director, NSD”. The cost of NSD screening test form is Rs.150/-.(subject to change).

The applicant must be well prepared before going for the audition round. You have to understand the in the audition round you have to compete with the talents from all over the nation. So only the best talents can make their path into the Drama School. Now these days the growing opportunity for the performance arts programs made the competition tougher for the aspirants. The influence of media industry and the reality shows create a large demand for the right professionals in the filed and hence importance of the institutions likes NSD. The aspirants having the inborn talents can impress the selection panel but it is important that you must be well trained. You can take training from the experts before taking the audition and should have some knowledge in the arts and related fields. Your attitude and interest is also important during the selection process. The aspirants should poses learning nature and be ready to works as a team.
