MINING & METALLURGY
Mining and metallurgy courses are very popular in India, as several technical colleges and universities offer the courses. Metal extraction holds immense importance among various industrial activities in India and therefore, metallurgy engineers are always on demand. During the training program, metallurgy students are not only taught about metal extraction from various ores, but also the properties and uses of metals.
On the other hand, in mining engineering, students are trained about drilling and blasting, materials handling, rock mechanics, mine health and safety, mine ventilation, mine cost engineering, ore reserve analysis, operations analysis, mine planning, and minerals processing.
Like other engineering studies, students willing to pursue mining and metallurgy engineering have to secure good marks in their 10+2 exam and they should be from science background (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). For building a successful career in mining engineering, a certificate from the Director General of Mines and Safety, Dhanbad, is required.
Several universities and colleges offer undergraduate programs in mining and metallurgy. Career Prospects:
Metallurgy Engineers can get good positions in various metal extracting companies, including Tata Steel, Steel Authority of India, Hindustan Copper Limited, Hindalco Industries Limited and Jindal Steel and many others. Apart from that, skilled engineers can get good opportunities in alloy manufacturing plants or in the heavy machinery unit of any company.
Mining engineers will also get good opportunities at the end of the course. Mines, Minerals Development Corporation and Mining Department of Union recruit skilled engineers. Especially the positions like mining manager, mine designer, rock engineering, mining economics, geology project designs ensure a steady career growth and satisfactory remuneration.
